MARINE PARK, Brooklyn --- A woman and man were injured when an illegal dollar van struck them on busy Flatbush Avenue in Marine Park around rush hour Friday evening and then fled the area.
It happened on Flatbush Avenue between Avenue U and Avenue V across from Kings Plaza Mall around 5 p.m.
The 50-year-old woman and 47-year-old man were crossing the avenue when they were stuck by the van. The force of the crash was so strong, it knocked the shoes off the female victim.
Sources say the driver is a Haitian immigrant driving the illegal van without a license who police have been looking for. Witnesses say he struck the two people, looked back and kept driving.
The pedestrians were transported to Kings County Hospital where the woman is listed in critical condition.
Flatbush Avenue was closed for most of the evening, but has since reopened. The investigation continues.
