Breaking down the Bret Hart/Shawn Michaels feud in kayfabe terms

In kayfabe terms from Wrestemania 12 until Survivor Series 1997, how would break down the bret hart/hbk feud/rivalry? Why did bret hart hate hbk so much? Why did hbk hate bret so much? Keep in mind im talking about their kayfabe feud/rivalry not their real life one.

They started shooting from a real life view into their promos. They werent really likeable. Michaels was faking injuries after losing to Sid and they started a long story of Bret returning against Austin but the perception that he was crying all the time to set up the Austin face turn. It was heel vs heel ego silliness.

I didnt see it that way. Shawn Michaels was a political wizard that played games with Vader but knew his place like not trying Undertaker. Bret didnt have those issues with rising Austin, Rock, or Taker. That pretty much tells you who was really hard to work with and who wasnt.

They were both alphas fighting for the same spot going back to the Rockers/Hart Foundation days, and had extremely different view points on life and the business, which made their conflict more intense.

It made bret look holier than thou, hbk posed in a magazine, had tatoos, piercings, so bret thought he was a better champ/man

On a sidenote i thought that was one of bret's best promo

HBK, obviously. Vince picked him, Bret got run out of town and had terrible event after terrible event happen to him, forced to retire early with scrambled eggs brain. Meanwhile, HBK got to have a whole second career and be one of the most celebrated dudes in company history.

Michaels was who they projected as the winner but fans wise..its no contest. The fans has never really seen Shawn Michaels in the same light since 97 while Bret Hart became a cult legend and one of the most revered stars in wrestling history.

Kayfabe wise Bret was a traditionalist and HBK was generation x. Bret was a family man and grew up in the business with his whole family involved.
