Is there ever a point when there's too much weight gained from the time of the weigh in to the time of the fight. I bring it up (and sorry if its been brought up before) because Canelo gained 15 lbs in 24 hours.

Do you think it should be regulated? Its really not a 152 fight anymore. Chime in!

It's all water/crash. As long as he makes the weighin IMO it's cool:manny:

don't matter if its water or skittles. he was still way over on fight night. I think they should regulate this cuz a lot of fighters try to do that so they can gain weight advantages in lower weight classes. I'm sure Canelo thought his weight would help him.

95% of boxers do this. This is not an isolated incident.

Whether its high school wresting, pro boxing or UFC this is what they do.

yes there is a point where it is too much..10-15 is normal..if you rehydrate over 20 lbs in 24 hours then you prolly should look at your training habits or a new division...25 or more is too much..this is what jcc jr is known for

they used to have weighins at the day of the fight but there were instances of boxers not rehydrating back correctly or enough and getting hurt and/or damaged..thats why it was changed

10-15 is not normal breh

I can recall in the 90's it used to be big commotion when fighters rehydrated about 8 pounds, boxing has to regulate this to get control of the sport since the 00's people has been taking advantage of this too much, C class fighters parading as champions using the Gatti system beating on fighters 30 pounds less than their normal weight

Agreed. Same day weigh-ins is not going to solve the problem, fighters will still cut weight and like you said, will sometimes not fully rehydrate. The risk for brain damage is much higher if a fighter is dehydrated.

But then they were still doing same day weighins so it wasn't even 24 hours..water weight comes back fast..fighters cannot go in the ring dehydrated...that was the reason why Toney was so sluggish against Roy and one of the factors that did Gerald McClellan in against Benn..they have to put it back on

Then they should fight a different weight class. It's getting out of hand.

if a fighter has to go thru a whole dehydration process just to make weight cuz he's over by 10 + pounds then they shouldn't be in that weight class. Water is a part of your body composition.
