As noted, WWE NXT announcer Rich Brennan has been promoted to the lead announcer role on SmackDown. Now that WWE Tough Enough has ended, it looks like coach Booker T will be headed to Thursday nights in two weeks while Byron Saxton will permanently replace him on RAW.

RAW will be called by Saxton, JBL and Michael Cole while SmackDown will have Brennan, Booker and Jerry Lawler. No word yet on what's next for Tom Phillips.

.@RichBrennanWWE No problem! Can't wait to join you at the announce table in 2 weeks! #LetEmHaveIt

This nikka saxton is bland. No personality at all. Booker t was funny on commentary.

I knew booker t would fit in as soon as I saw him make that "Batista is down" comment some years ago.:ehh:

Raw just got a less exciting now :upsetfavre:

Smackdown probably has the better commentary team now too:patrice:

Yeah I'm pretty concerned about this.

Raw is boring and drawn out enough....Saxton just makes it a little worse.

At least Booker occasionally had funny disagreements with people and shyt.

Does it matter? All the colors sound the same and all the play by plays sound the same. The WWE trains each commentator to say the things they want em to say and in the end there's little to no variety among the commentators. What's the difference between a Tom Phillips and a Rich Brennan? :heh:The commentators don't even play off a dynamic anymore, everybody flip flops between face and heel.

I know Culture Shock was the safe and planned way for Corey Graves to work without getting into the ring...but he should be the one moving up before anybody.

He's the best commentator they got. Knows the moves, knows how to put talent over, and knows when to shut the hell up.

I can't help but compare him to Jesse Ventura as an announcer. He's definitely a different image than Jesse at first glance, but he's heelish and says so much that just makes sense, that they feel cut from the same cloth.

He would be a definite upgrade from JBL.

As for Byron, I actually like his character. He's corny, but pulls it together to point out what faces endure, and I actually kinda like his bit where he tries to talk for wrestlers by dropping anecdotes from "conversations" he's had with them.

It may not always work, but it harkens back to when you could believe a commentator was trying to get a scoop.

Rich Brennan called a Lou Thesz press a Bronco Buster on the last NXT.
