Algieri Would Be Too Much For Danny Garcia, Says Arum
Posted by: Radio Rahim on 10/21/2014

By Radio Rahim

Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum rejected some of the industry rumors, that Manny Pacquiao's upcoming fight with Chris Algieri is a prelude to a 2015 showdown between the Filipino superstar and WBC/WBA 140-pound champion Danny Garcia.

Pacquiao faces Algieri (20-0, 8KOs) on November 22nd from the Venetian in Macau, China. The fight takes place at a catch-weight of 144-pounds. Pacquiao's Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach would like to see his boxer drop down to 140-pounds next year. Roach has discussed, in several interviews, his preference to see a fight between Pacquiao and Garcia (29-0, 17KOs).

But Arum views next month's fight as being a tough proposition, because he doesn't believe Garcia has much of a chance to defeat Algieri, who holds the WBO title at 140.

"I don't think that Danny Garcia, if he fought Algieri today, would have much of a chance. Algieri is a real great athlete. [A prelude to Garcia] wasn't why we made a fight between [Algieri] and Pacquiao. We were going to make Pacquuao and Provodnikov, and once Algieri licked him - we figured that Algieri had enough of a back story to make this fight [with Pacquiao] very interesting," Arum told BoxingScene.com.

I think Chris Algieri, Viktor Postol, Mauricio Herrera, etc would always give Danny Garcia problems, because he's not that good of a "pure" boxer and he's slow in his punches and feet.

Boxers like those listed above would give him trouble, while on the other hand, people like Keith Thurman, Lucas Matthysse, Ruslan Provodnikov, etc would be easier fights for him due to the fact he's a really good counter puncher and ALWAYS catches over aggressive fighters with the left hook from his mom's side of the family with perfect timing.

I know it sounds weird when you look at the names, but the evidence is there. You cant really beat Danny Garcia by going toe to toe slugging it out with him...he'll take your punch and KO you. He CAN be outboxed though.

Styles make fights

Algieri, Herrera, Postol are all boxers but that doesn't make them the same

Herrera has an iron chin never been dropped...Herrera fought using mainly his jab N was very very cautious throwing power punches

Saying Swift doesn't stand a chance vs Algieri is some senile typical Arum talk...Angel Garcia is already on record saying they'd fight Algieri for that WBO:sas2:

Errybody beats Swift according to certain people round these parts...Yet somehow some way the 0 remains:umad:

Brolic... Alcoholics
I don't like Swift at all but I think he floors Algieri. He hits really hard and he's smarter than people give him credit for.

cautious throwing power punches :mjlol:..no punch is more important than a jab..had danny utilized one (and learned how to slip a jab) he wouldn't have looked like a fool

What exactly is your point?? Where did I say the jab didn't matter??:aicmon:

Herrera didn't throw enough power punches that's a FACT...he was out landed in power punches by 72

Guess what in his very next fight vs Perez Herrera threw a lot more power punches...we were all in the fight thread N we were all speaking on it

Act like outlanding your opp by 80 power punches means nothing...:camby:

sticking to a plan and later slugging out in the fight doesn't seem like caution to me...it is nothing when jabs and TOTAL punches Herrera landed more on Danny..if danny landed more TOTAL overall then you may have a case of it not being a robbery..power punches that did not damage Herrera one bit or were effective

Act like outlanding your opp by 106 power punches means nothing brehs:sas2:

If anyone believes that Danny Garcia beat Mauricio Herrera going by just power punch stats HAVE to believe that JLC also beat Floyd Mayweather in their first fight and was robbed:rgpls:

Thanks for proving my point

When there are fights where one fighter lands a lot of jabs N one fighter lands a lot of power shots...judges N people goin see the fight differently

I'm sure we can find PLENTY of fights where the boxer who landed way more power was given the W

Jus look at the first rds of Swift Herrera... Lil action close rds....nikkas in here was already on there masterful boxing by Herrera agenda..meanwhile you got people like Fat Dan scoring those rds for Danny

It all depends on how you judge fights

Yup, I said it during the fight that I understood the gameplan but Juvi wasn't doing himself any favors with the way he fought. I scored it for Danny(barely) but you aren't going to win a decision against the "A side" that way. I can see how nikkas could say Juvi won though.
