Has there ever been a more visually stunning flick which can challenge it shot-for-shot? Well, that's subjective in any case but the list would undoubtedly be a short one. It pulled off just about everything it set out to do with gusto and nearly flawlessly, which in this case was an incredibly rare blend of Sci-Fi and Film Noir. A retrofitted dystopian future, gloomy urban sprawl of high-tech ingenuity and possibility that's been soured by apparent ecological and societal devastation.

The near perpetual night, darkness, and rain-soaked streets; smog and steam permeating the atmosphere at seemingly every twist and turn with neon advertisements flashing down from up above the city and reflecting off the steel, glass and damp asphalt. The stark contrast, unconventional angles, shadowy figures, smoke filled rooms, lamp lighting and even the damn venetian blinds are all prominently featured. Two of the most evident characteristics being the strong backlighting and utilization of light shafts.

:wow: We need more good visually cyberpunk movies.

Got the sequel Blade Runner 2049 coming in October. It's gonna look spectacular with Roger Deakins as DP but from the side-by-side comparison, I still prefer the lived-in feel of the OG with grainy look of 35mm film over digital, use of practical and analog FX and on-location shooting from a lot of spots in LA they utilized (Bradbury Building, Ennis House, Union Station, Second Street Tunnel, etc.)

This might be my favorite shot. But yeah, the movie is visually stunning. There are a few films that can compete but very few.
