MENDENHALL, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
The water coming out of faucets is black, but residents in Mendenhall say there has been no boil water notice and they have even been told that the water is safe to drink.
"Beautiful Poplar Springs water," said Ronnie Goodman.
He and his wife live on Poplar Springs Road. When Goodman woke up Friday morning and turned on the faucet, he didn't expect to see water that looked like black coffee.
"It's actually in the water system and you can look in the back of the toilet," Goodman said, lifting up the lid of the toilet. "And as you flush it you see the water stain."
When his wife called the Poplar Springs Water District, they were told that it was safe to drink the water.
When MsNewsNow reached out, we were also told that there was no problem with the water, there was just too much iron in it.
"My question is who would want to sit down at the table and drink some of this?" asked Goodman.
After walking through the home, it appeared that Goodman was correct. Black water everywhere; in the sinks, the bathtubs, the washing machine.
"It's just right for people to come home and have a load of clothes and they are white," he said.
But it didn't end there. Down the street, another family was dealing with black water issues. An actual stream of black water was running down their driveway.
Goodman says he and his wife have used everything, including bleach, and the stain from the discolored water simply won't go away.
Thankfully, Friday evening, the water started running clear again.
