Created by BAFTA-winner Hugo Blick,this thriller focuses on international war crimes and the legal and political turmoil that accompanies them. The eight-part series follows Kate Ashby (
Michaela Coel), a young woman who was rescued during the Rwandan genocide when she was a child. Kate now lives in Britain with her adoptive mother, world-class prosecutor in international law Eve Ashby (
Harriet Walter). She works as a legal investigator for another expert in the field, Michael Ennis (
John Goodman). But when Eve takes on a case that involves prosecuting an African militia leader, her life as well as the lives of Kate and Michael are changed forever.
Blick’s credits include writing and directing the Peabody and Golden Globe-winning BBC drama
The Honourable Woman as well as writing the Chiwetel Ejiofor and Christopher Eccleston-starring film
The Shadow Line. He also starred in Tim Burton’s
Batman as young Jack Napier, the man who killed Bruce Wayne’s parents and ultimately becomes the Joker in the movie. The series is also being producer by the same team that made the Suranne Jones and Jodie Comer-starring series
Doctor Foster.
