So I'm kind of caught off guard by all the brothers and sisters that flooded SC this weekend in the wake of all the issues between black men and the police that have gone viral post Trayvon Martin...

I get that we all want to have a good time but we can't be that unfocused right?

I didn't go this year and I convinced a group of brothers I build with to chill this year as well given the issues and the lack of solutions being proposed.

Why go to SC and contribute to their economy?

Their hotels, retail stores, clubs, and restaurants (white or black owned) should've felt that sting this year to send a message that what took and sill take place in that area isn't acceptable even if one cop is arrested...

Protesting solves nothing it's opportunities like this that we've got capitalize off of

Should we at least shift out focus to this countries Independcence day that shouldn't mean squat to us?

These are great opportunities to save our bread and take the holiday to relax and save paper

I agree with you on the first part in that we have to hurt their economy to get their attention; unfortunately Black bike week in SC is not being utilized the way it could be to challenge the system. It could be that time to really gather the masses and hurt the white power structure.

I don't agree with your point that protesting solves nothing as it has historically led to less police brutality and more community building amongst the residents

While i can definitely understand and respect you and ya clique fighting the powers that be, im curious as to what was done as an alternative? Even if nothing tangible did u all come up with new ideas to further your demonstration?

I ask not to criticize but with intrigue. Many of the ppl who frequent bike fest aren't that interested in bringing about substantial change until an incident hits close to home.

I'm just stating it's a clear first step in the right direction that doesn't involve us showing our hand (out in the streets yelling and protesting like children). We can use social media and texting (modernized communication) to mobilize the masses who are down. Of course the mainstream would catch on but they couldn't stop a united front that isn't participating in the festivities.

I agree with each poster that it's just one phase. The next is public policy at the local level. Our generation has to realize how our circumstances got to be this way (the last 40/50 years). Once we understand the laws of the land (that our ancestors actually created #moorish law) again we can reshape/FIGHT to reshape public policy that was focused on keeping us down systemically.

So you've got the short term solution with a longterm scope on making the right changes to a flawed system
