I was just thinking of how two circles of black actors could really change the game if they collaborated more.

Denzel, Sam Jack, Wesley Snipes, Larry Fishburne, Morgan Freeman is one circle who came up together before they made it to hollywood.
All their joint credits were early in their career and weren't really a conscious decision to work together because they were still on their way up and couldn't command roles.

Sam Jack, Wesley in Jungle Fever
Denzel, Morgan, Cry Freedom
Wesley, Larry, King of New York
Denzel, Wesley, Sam Jack in Mo' Better Blues
Sam Jack, Larry in School Daze

But now they each worth 50-150 milly a piece
except wesley :mjcry:
These guys can pool their money, resources and talent to make some films (Denzel could put on the directors hat more often:myman:)
These guys at this point should be the black answer to Clooney, Damon, Pitt, Affleck

The second group of Eddie, Keenen, Damon, Arsenio, Townsend, Mooney worked together early on, but haven't done anything together since.
:salute: to them for all their accomplishments...but they could have done it even bigger than they did if they had reformed after Keenen had mainstream directing success with the Scary Movie franchise, and started producing their own films

Oh well. At least we got Tyler Perry
:mjcry:
I  his success tho

I think they're about 5 years too late at this point
fisburn and morgan freeman are beyond :flabbynsick: at this point
- denzel doesn't seem to be getting the same high profile roles anymore, (like he was getting in the 90s) :to:
- sam jack is too busy making bank off credit card commercials and marvel movies:whew: He's prob too comfortable to care right now
- and wesley snipes :mjlol:

what i'm worried about is that we dont have any young black actors that are ready to lead the next gen. We really need more black directors/producers, ect..

it is happening...in a bigger circle of actors:

Michael Ealy
Regina Hall
Kevin Hart
Taraji P. Henson
Terrence Jenkins
Gabrielle Union

Meagan Good

J.B. Smoove
Romany Malco
Ice Cube

in films together?

thats not a coincidence...they're all getting money together and Ice cube is a big part of that

I don't think that they should stick together too much, because it creates what already is. They need to branch out more and push for people of color to take non-race defined roles.

Yea, they don't all need to star in each film...but for example they all pitch in to co-produce 2-5 films a year and each guy can star(or make an appearance) in one of the films. The others can make cameos if called for.

For your second point...They all seem to pick a wide range of roles when it comes to their own film careers, so I would hope they would do the same when making movies.

Im not too keen on movie politics, but I think other than money, the main problem is that you still have to go to through certain ppl (hint hint) to distribute and market the movie and (much like the music industry) there really is a strangle hold on that portion of the industry.

Doesnt really change his message....especially considering that he's the only one that seems to be pushing the idea right now.

how? kevin hart has actually been putting in work on this front, and tyler perry - regardless of mass opinion about the quality of product. and yes, it matters, dude wasn't talking this when he was an a-lister with white america, then his career takes a step back and all of suddenly it's all about black unity? Sorry, that message doesn't hit home from me coming from him. You can't live life one way, then all of suddenly make a u-turn and expect people not to look at you crazy or not believe your sincerity/expertise/conviction, whatever, of your new stance
