Bill O'Reilly: Gay Marriage Foes Can Only 'Thump The Bible' In Their Arguments (VIDEO)

Bill O'Reilly said Tuesday that the opponents of same-sex marriage have been unable to do anything but "thump the Bible" in their arguments.

Speaking to Megyn Kelly about the Supreme Court's hearing on Proposition 8, O'Reilly--who has previously compared gay marriage to bestiality--appeared to have "evolved" on the subject. He said he didn't "feel that strongly" about gay marriage "one way or another" and thought the decision should be left to individual states. "I want all Americans to be happy," he said, adding, "I live in New York. New York is fine with it.":ld:

Kelly said pro-marriage equality forces had made very compelling arguments that opponents had been hard-pressed to tackle.

"I agree with you 100 percent. The compelling argument is on the side of homosexuals," O'Reilly said. "That is where the compelling argument is. We're Americans, we just want to be treated like everybody else. That's a compelling argument, and to deny that you've got to have a very strong argument on the other side. And the other side hasn't been able to do anything but thump the Bible."
This, he added, was not a basis on which to enact public policy.

looks like someone can smell which way the wind is blowing :heh:

Bill O'Reilly has always tried to distance himself from Hannity, Limbaugh, and those types not too much, but a little to try and paint himself as a centrist every man while still maintaining right-wing credibility. He only cares about his own ego, money, and relevance. I don't know what his core beliefs are, or if he even really has any beyond his own narcissism.

He's not one to defend "traditional marriage" anymore anyway since his wife is off getting her cavities searched and filled by Det. Jimmy McNulty every night.

I don't hear biblical arguments against same sex marriage. Usually it's the slippery slope, and heterosexual marriages are better for children/society...a few others. I also don't have religious people in my circle.

Those arguments are almost always thinly-veiled rehashes of religious arguments, or attempts to hide the religious origins of their distaste, though. No educated person would really believe the slippery slope argument, the children argument has been disproven repeatedly by psychologists and sociologists, and the "marriage should be a tool of social reproduction" argument strongly contradicts the anti-government and individualistic tendencies that belong to traditional conservatism. Only social conservatives (who are almost all religious) and otherwise religious people continue to repeat them at this point.

There's hardly any data out there. Single parent homes there are, and it isnt good. You want to create a whole new class of marriage and adoptive rights?
Why not let the States be a testing ground until the data is conclusive that gay marriage is not an additional burden on society?

There's more than enough data to make a reasonable conclusion, and it all indicates that 2-parent gay homes > single parent homes, and that there's no significant difference between a heterosexual or gay two-parent home.

There's no new class of marriage or adoptive rights, so I don't know where you're getting that from.

I'm also not sure how more marriages (which is the only effect of legalizing gay marriages) will be a burden in and of itself. There's no new class or category required.

If you can find the American Academy of Pediatrics report, it's all in there, but here's the upshot of the report:

Docs: Same-sex marriage benefits kids – The Chart - CNN.com Blogs

In reaching its conclusion, the American Academy of Pediatrics authors reviewed more than 30 years of scientific research evaluating children raised by gay and lesbian parents.

“There’s no relationship between parents' gender or sexual orientation and their children's well-being,” Perrin said. “Our conclusion is based in the fact that there’s no evidence at all that same-sex marriage harms children in any way.”
