I watched this video a couple of times and initially noticed there was something different about it than every right-leaning libertarian message I hear in the media.

Then I realized what it was. He was making a positive case based on empathy and love instead of paranoia, fear, and demonization. He was talking about having compassion for people, wanting everyone to have a job and be happy. He's pro gay rights. He said he doesn't dislike Obama. :ohhh:

That's a sharp contrast from what you usually hear from the Glenn Beck-Alex Jones-Neal Boortz-Ron Paul newsletter-Hiphoplives4eva-Meta Reign standard protocol.

To be fair though, we are only spoon-fed certain types of libertarians. The majority of libertarians I've met in life are extremely compassionate people. Matter of factor, another site I post on has a fantastic libertarian section with some of the most rational minded people I've come across on the internet. Sure, there are some crazy ones, but if HL was judged by certain posters here, it would be unfair to most. In dealings at school in political "debate" organizations, the libertarians are always good minded people with knowledge of the law.

They've been welcoming to any of the issues I've raised with libertarian economic philosophy and lack of oversight. I still think they're dead wrong on about 60-70% of their views though.

I don't doubt that. I was only talking about media personalities...and I threw in a couple of HL posters.

Depends who is doing the defining.

For most Americans, universal healthcare might be a fringe idea.
No it isn't. Universal healthcare has had majority support of people for decades. Libertarianism is represented by a minority of people. Most people wants assault weapons banned, and of the minority who don't, even a smaller minority of them think they're necessary to protect against a tyrannical government.

Gun control support has gone back n forth over the last couple decades. There is usually more support when a tragedy happens, so right now people want assault weapons banned. In 6 months support will dwindle. And usually gun control laws have been overturned because of lose of support and court decisions about the constitution.

I'm not libertarian, but you could say that they are simply one step ahead, as opposed to saying they are crazy. I have friends and coworkers that have assault rifles. I have a few weapons. If the government came along and attempted to take these rights away, most people would consider that tyrannical. So only the government should have assault rifles? And if you look at the laws that have been passed since 2001 (in regards to government murder and citizen privacy), you could say that libertarians are simply preparing for the inevitable.
