DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. — Authorities have arrested nine people, including several coaches, they say were gambling on youth football games and setting point spreads.
Broward Sheriff’s officials searched two alleged gambling houses Monday where they say people were betting on professional, college and youth games.
The nine men arrested were charged with bookmaking and some with keeping a gambling house. Authorities say the suspects had direct ties to the South Florida Youth Football League and several have extensive criminal histories.
According to the league’s website, it has 22 clubs and 6,000 children of all ages in three counties.
Brandon Bivins, coach and president of the Fort Lauderdale Hurricanes, was among those charged. He’s being held on $50,000 bond. It’s unclear if Bivins had an attorney.
Okay....some of the dudes doing it being ex-cons is one thing.....but why is this such a big deal? Because saying shyt like THIS:
"You're really taking the integrity out of the game. I mean these are innocent kids at this point and that's all they know ... They're going to take pride in their team, not knowing that the president, the head of your team, is involved in all kinds of illegal activity," he said.
...and THIS:
"They take all innocence away from the game when they involve themselves in these criminal acts," the detective said.
....is a bunch of fukkin' hypocritical bullshyt.
How do they "take all innocence away" if the damn kids don't even KNOW the game is being bet on?
Someone PLEASE explain to me what the difference is between betting on youth games vs. high school games. vs. college games vs. the NFL?
Oh wait, I get it....it's considered ILLEGAL because Florida youth league officials weren't getting their CUT.
