DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. — Authorities have arrested nine people, including several coaches, they say were gambling on youth football games and setting point spreads.

Broward Sheriff’s officials searched two alleged gambling houses Monday where they say people were betting on professional, college and youth games.

The nine men arrested were charged with bookmaking and some with keeping a gambling house. Authorities say the suspects had direct ties to the South Florida Youth Football League and several have extensive criminal histories.

According to the league’s website, it has 22 clubs and 6,000 children of all ages in three counties.

Brandon Bivins, coach and president of the Fort Lauderdale Hurricanes, was among those charged. He’s being held on $50,000 bond. It’s unclear if Bivins had an attorney.

Okay....some of the dudes doing it being ex-cons is one thing.....but why is this such a big deal? Because saying shyt like THIS:

"You're really taking the integrity out of the game. I mean these are innocent kids at this point and that's all they know ... They're going to take pride in their team, not knowing that the president, the head of your team, is involved in all kinds of illegal activity," he said.

...and THIS:

"They take all innocence away from the game when they involve themselves in these criminal acts," the detective said.

....is a bunch of fukkin' hypocritical bullshyt. :stopitslime:

How do they "take all innocence away" if the damn kids don't even KNOW the game is being bet on?

Someone PLEASE explain to me what the difference is between betting on youth games vs. high school games. vs. college games vs. the NFL?

Oh wait, I get it....it's considered ILLEGAL because Florida youth league officials weren't getting their CUT. :rudy:

Yeah, I get it....gambling is illegal unless the RIGHT PEOPLE (e.g., Vegas, the Mob, etc.) are getting their cut....then it's "sanctioned".

Whatever.....

you can bet high school football at some of the bigger off shore books, or at least you used to be able to before most of em shut off contact with the us betting market. when i played high school ball here in vegas they used to publish point spreads on that weeks games in the local newspaper, and best believe every kid knew the spread when they took the field. theres a pretty large market for betting on the little league world series as well, believe it or not. pinnacle (probably the biggest sports book in the world) had 10k limits on the little league world series

I dunno about that....I guess it depends on the age of the kid.

You can't tell me an 8-year old knows that his team is -5.

Not only that, but more to the point, dawg....kids don't have the WHEREWITHALL to let the line affect the game. THEY ain't gettin' broke off, what incentive does a kid have for throwing a game? Yunno?

Bottom line: nikkas wasn't sharing the wealth with the proper youth league OFFICIALS, so now all of a sudden it's a "deplorable" situation. I mean damn, who do we think TOLD on them?

I'm just disgusted at the hypocrisy when it comes to betting.

Football is KING in the Delaware Valley, especially high school football....I'm supposed to believe these people have NEVER bet on games?

The whole shyts is disingenuous, man...
