So I recently got back into DJing and I'm using Mixtrack Pro 2 at the moment.

For software I got Serato DJ Intro which doesn't have a recording option. The more advanced Serato does but that upload costs over 100$ so for the moment I'm sticking with Intro.

I've seen people on line recording onto Audacity for their mixes. I tried that today but the sound was very distorted. I'm sure I can get around it and fix it but I'm wondering what the DJs in this forum use to record their mixes.

In a few months I will probably move onto a higher level of Serato but in the mean time, what do you guys use?

you need a audio interface, like a firewire. hook your mixtrack up to the interface, and then run that to your computer. that could be why your mix sounded heavily distorted. it's output is for speakers, its too much for a computer to handle and could fry your soundcard if you try hooking it directly up.

I usually record into fl studio. I can take anything off the internet, load it into serato and scratch it and record it. I can record mixes from serato and from vinyl with it also. audacity is ass checks btw

Wow. Thanks for that info cause that's what almost happened today! Trying to record into audacity I almost fried my sound card. Luckily its all right but damn, thanks for letting me know.

I also have FL Studio so in the future when I'm more experienced I'll follow ur advice to record. I'm not new to DJing but I'm new to the whole digital game and I just started playing again after over 4 years of not doing it. If I could pos rep you I would cause that's very good info you just gave me.

:salute: also a little more info about interfaces. There are cheaper ones out there that you can get for under 100$, they work good for recording samples, scratches, juggles, etc... but if you plan on recording a 20+ min mix out of serato, you will likely have dropouts and stutters that will fukk it up. So you need a firewire audio interface, which is a faster version that can handle that. they are expensive brand new. So unless you can find one cheap, you're probably better off getting a newer version of serato that can record.

That's assuming you just want to record mixes, for me I need a interface coz i'm always sampling and recording from vinyl and serato INTO fl studio.
