Thought it would be good to discuss and see what everyone here felt was the best scene directed by some of film's best directors. Maybe this takes off and we do more.

First up - Francis Ford Coppola

The Godfather II, Vito running along the rooftops following Don Fanucci in the streets below preparing to meet him in his building and kill him.

It's just a great shot of Fanucci in all white, oblivious to Sword of Damocles above his head.

Given some more thought I could probably better deconstruct that scene but it's a favorite of mine.

I haven't seen Apocalypse Now, I went through a directors binge years back but never got around to it.

I've only seen The Godfather Trilogy, The Conversation, and Dracula.

The Outsiders is one of my favorite books/movies. It doesn't get enough credit as having damn near every shot a cinematic masterpiece....except for the rumble.

An incredible opening to Dracula. It looks hellish, the silhouette of his armor and helmet against the burnt orange sky, the music swelling to a crescendo, Gary Oldman spiraling into madness going from being somewhat sympathetic to a vengeful monster. Very opera-ish.

You have to take a moment to pause and gather yourself before even starting the movie.
