all jabs look the same but not all jabs are the same. you can put a little hesitation on the end of your jab, pause the glove in front of a fighters face and block his eyes, and drop a right hand when he moves around it to see
or you can put a little hesitation on the end of the jab, wait for the counter to come back on it, then counter it with the right hand
ward and rigo put that hesitation on the end of a lot of their jabs. its similar concept to putting a little hesitation on your dribble drive at the top of the key, just to see what the defense is giving you before you go in. its about rhythm and its about perception. its about trying to understand a fighter, not just trying to beat a fighter.
throw a lot of jabs, you will get back alot of slips. you created that effect, so use it. throw the jab out, let him slip it. drop the right hand into his slipping motion.
in my mind this is the most important counter to understand in boxing: throw a jab you will get back a lot of counter jabs. thats a good thing you want him jabbing with you. if you can get him jabbing with you, youre in control of his punches. throw a jab, get him to throw the jab back on it, counter it with the right hand over the top
land some of these, he will start to fear your jab, and wont try to counter it as much. now you opened up your jab to have more free reign. a fighter who fears your jab, just gave you the go ahead to go and win a lot of rounds with it. you just made it an easier fight to control with just the jab. build a career on that, you can build a good career.
