but you're familiar with black thought's work right? granted i know that you know who he is but some nikkas might not rock with him like that based on roots beats. streams of thought vol 1 & 2 are the business. plus he got a joint where he spits over nothing but james brown loops. god level b

He's pure talent. Raps in a good place if he can follow this up imho.

Still kinda shocked. I wrote the album off coz I wasn't feeling the production 2 days ago but after giving it another listen it's actually gone up. I'd give it an 8.6/10 now.

Nah, I tried to get into the Roots in the late 90s/ early 00s but those beats ain't for me, man. I mean the production is okay if you know what I mean but Questlove's musical direction is too eclectic for me and that isn't necessarily a bad thing again but for an emcee like Black Thought he deserved better. Lost the best years of his career to being loyal.

lol i feel you. it's like that for my wu stan younger cousin who feels thought lyrically but can't stand the jazzy darius in love jones black poetry lounge beats he spits on with the roots.. but i fukk with it just fine.


though i like him spittin on harder soul loops with a darker street edge, i'm a legit cannonball adderley sp1200/s950 sample nikka with mad horns. along the lines of pete rock and cl smooth, tribe, bahamadia, lord finesse hip 2 da game etc. so i always enjoyed him in that lane HOWEVER... the roots deviated from that in '96 with illadelph halflife, pick up that album yesterday duke. raw beats
