I know a lot of people are curious about projectors....

SAMOCHh.jpg

Bought it a few months ago. It's being projected onto a wall right now. That's about 160 inches or so. The projector is rated to 1080p at 120 inches. So that picture is just slightly below HD. I honestly can't tell the difference from the 120 and 160 though.

Not sure what my final size is going to be. I can either mount it under the coffee table or on a beam on the ceiling. Either way it will be nice to have an open white wall and a TV only when we need it.

I have a receiver to manage all the HDMI sources and sound. A 2008 Macbook Pro is going to power the Apple TV using iTunes and Beamer as well as anything I can't push to the Apple TV.

I still got my 60" LCD in my chill room for everyday use.

That picture was just taken. I'm lucky because I can light control my entire place with the push of a few buttons. Hoping to have this done by the Super Bowl.

Note: that's the American Sniper trailer

I came in here ready to find out where you downloaded such a crisp copy of that American Sniper from. Glad you clarified.

You have convinced me to get a projector from that image alone. I'd never really considered one, but I might have to go ahead and get on this.

I think it's worth it. Especially when you consider people are buying 80 inch TV's for $3,000 for home theaters.

This model was $1,100 but I could have gotten a 1080p projector for under $700 if I didn't need a short throw one. My mounting options are limited to under the coffee table or on the beam on my ceiling. So short throw was a must.

Surprisingly....even with all of the skylights open and the lights on the picture is still pretty clear. But obviously low light is best.

Yeah that was my next question. "How is it in luminous conditions?" Seems yours is good though. What brand and model is that?

BenQ HT1085st

The ST is for short throw. It comes in non short throw version but not sure of the model. Quick Google should answer it for you.

This is what it looks like with lights fully on and shining on them

These are the lights in the room. Pretty powerful. Picture still maintains. Not perfect though.

How long does the bulb last breh?

6,000 hours in Eco-Mode. So that's 250 days straight (24 hours a day).

Or more realistically 3 1/2 years if you use it 6 hours a day.

I honestly can't see the difference between full power and eco mode...but I usually don't have a lot of lights going in this particular room. Those studio lights are barely ever on. There's a second less bright light in the room too.

Replacement lamp is $250. By the time you'll need one it will be half that price.

I'm gonna wait until the LED projectors come down in price, but nice setup breh. Now all you need are some speakers and you got a movie theater breh.

My plan was to wait on LED too. But I jumped the gun on the projector instead of buying a new TV.

I'm looking at either just a sound bar + subwoofer setup or full Dolby 7.1

For those that don't know LED projectors will never need a bulb replacement, no warm up time, and incredibly high lumens. It's just right now to get a 1080p projector with lumens over 2000 you're looking at $3,000 up.

Doesn't having it on the wall disrupt the quality of the picture wouldn't it look better against a screen?

Depends on the color of the wall....but yes...in general a screen would look better.

Once I get my mounting situation resolved I'll go with a 120" screen most likely. The 160" is big and nice but too big for the size of that room.

been wanting to cop one for a while but was afraid the lighting in my pad would make it only enjoyable in the dark. Looks pretty clean with lights on. Might cop with income tax
