First time posting in here
peep it
First off: props for creating something and sharing it. Keep on the grind: 'make 3 beats a day for 3 summers' -Kanye
The good:
+You did more than do what most people do: make a 4-bar loop and repeat that 3 minutes.
+You had an intro
+Your music changed up several times
+You're not trying to sound 'up-to-date' by force making a trap beat
The 'this needs work'
-There's no need for that intro to be that long, you could've cut that in half
-The beat sounds quite outdated: it immediately made me think of the (amazing) NBA Street Vol 2 soundtrack which includes a lot of beats done by Just Blaze. This is not a bad thing if that is the sound you are going for - don't let this change your sound, I'm just pointing this out.
-When the music changes and the 'yeah' part comes in it's louder to the point that it's disturbingly louder - you want to go for an 'even' mix where things can be louder and less loud, but where the disparity isn't that clearly felt
Overall:
I'd give this a 6.8/10 (with 10 being the best thing you have ever heard). Because you're not just dropping loops, I think this is better than average, since it sounds a bit outdated and the chorus is very 'Ruff Ryders' to me (this is late mid 90's - 20 years ago) I'm going with the 6.8 out of 10.
Question:
1. The levels of the beat seem low - is this on purpose? Try using a plugin to make sure the beat is nice and loud, e.g. if you are using Logic, just for demo purposes you can put an L1 plug in on the master just to pump up your music (not pump it up too loud of course that it clips)? What do you use?
Props bro!
