honestly, for most, I don't think so

I think the internet has a lot to do with it, and also the age of most hip hop fans as well...

most of us grew up on shyt like Pac, Big, Nas, Jay, etc. in the 90's (this also applies to dudes who grew up in the late 80's who have KRS, BDK, Rakim, etc. in their top 5)

also, there was no internet back then and the market wasn't as flooded, so albums and singles had more of an impact on day to day life... people were bumping albums for damn near 6 months at a time; these days, even if an album is amazing, you'll play it heavy for maybe 30 days before moving on to something else that just came out

also, another reason it seemed like artists had a bigger impact back then was that the hip hop climate was completely different; aside from a few exceptions, the popular rappers were also the best rappers... Rakim, KRS, BIG, Pac, Hov, etc. were known by anyone who even just casually followed the genre;

that's not really the case today; yea, everyone knows Lil Wayne (who's garbage), but does the casual hip hop fan know who Skyzoo or Elzhi is?

so because of this, it's harder for modern day artists to really leave that same stamp on their specific era as a whole; their music just doesn't reach the same audience, even if it's superior

even if the illest MC ever came out today, I just can't imagine people 10 years from now saying "damn dogg, he overtook Pac/Big/Jay/Nas as the GOAT" regardless of the quality of his music

what do y'all think?

If Reks keeps dropping dope albums for the next few years he just might be my GOAT one day.

The honest answer is yes, I always leave that possibly open or I'm not being real with myself. Currently it's 2 Pac, but KRS, Nas, K-Rino all seem to have a shot, because let's say for instance they all drop amazing albums for the next 15-20 years... I think they quite possibly could overtake Pac though I love Pac's music. Also a new artist might appear from somwhere, or someone lower on my list might suddenly step their game up. I don't know if someone will overtake Pac but they could, it's not a door I've closed.

:ohhh: That's an interesting point. However of course there will always be a potential for some one to surpass an Artist that is bumped as your GOAT. Just like Rakim, KRS and Pac have been surpassed by Andre 3000, Nas and Jay as time has gone on there will be potential for the latter to be replaced and for those to be replaced also.

Hip Hop will evolve and so will the quality of music with it. :pacspit: at guys who say ignorant things like, 'Hip Hop is Dead.'

Nope...GOAT is Scarface and most rappers won't survive half the years that he has in the game or release half the great music he has released his career...

Why not, my GOATS are either dead or washed up and looking back they each only ever had 2 classics max. If Kanye could rap he'd have bumped biggie/eminem off my list.
