46 years ago today was the beginning of the battle of the bogside. a civil uprising that made bogside, derry a no go area for the police and military.

The riots where caused by police brutality towards irish catholic civil rights campaigners and saw the local population armed only with stones, sticks and anything else they could find defeat a police force with military grade weapons.
