Variety reports that two Batman Unlimited movies are on the way, along with three 15-minute Super Friends shorts based on Mattel's Imaginext. The first direct-to-video Batman Unlimited film will come on May 12, with the second due in the second half of this year. No time frame has been announced for the Super Friends shorts.
The Batman Unlimited movies will feature a wide roster of DC characters, like The Flash, Red Robin, Nightwing, and Green Arrow. They'll team up to take on Penguin. Those will be released on Blu-ray, DVD, and digitally. Two 22-minute shorts will be available on digital platforms and a companion app. The Super Friends shorts will be on their own app as well.
This signals a change for the way DC is targeting toy lines. Rather than make toys that revolve around existing animated series, these cartoons are being built around the toy line-ups.
