So instead of making the knockout rounds of the cup and having to play games against possibly the Bucks, Knicks and an extra 83rd game, we instead get to play the Pistons & Wizards?

I think we won

I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking this. I was worried about the extra mileage and Injury probability that meaningless cup was going to put on our players, I was annoyed with leaving the starters in late in games because of chasing points and I don't want to hang an IST banner(Adam Silver wants this) around the real banners at TD Garden.

One day there will be incentive to doing well in the NBA Cup but today is not that day. They need to retool the idea. Right now it's just a failed attempt at trying to be European soccer

I think they'll get it right eventually. My take on this last year...
I've seen people put it out there that the winner should be given a guaranteed Play-In spot, but I think they should look into home court advantage being the main reward for the winner.

There should be a tiered approach for this determined by what seed a team finishes with:

  • In-Season Tourney Winner (1-4 Seed Teams) are given HCA when they face a team with a higher seeding in the Playoffs
  • In-Season Tourney Winner (5 or 6 Seed Teams) are given HCA in the 1st Round of the Playoffs
  • In-Season Tourney Winner (7-10 Seeded Teams) are given HCA throughout the Play-In Round
This keeps things competitive for all teams IMO. The top teams will want to win to ensure that they get home court throughout and not against a lower seed.

This also keeps things interesting and incentivizes the rest of the year and seeding really mattering. Another thing to consider, is that this would only impact 1 side of the Playoff Bracket each year.

Only thing that would need to be tweaked would be for the scenario with a 7 Seed winning the In-Season tourney because they already have HCA throughout the Play-In, but other than that, this would work.

:jbhmm:
For a team like Boston, if this was in place, it would give them the option to either go for HCA now by winning the Tournament, and then later on in the season rest up not having to battle it out for seeding since they were the NBA Cup champs.

That's how it's done in European Soccer in some ways... I floated the idea a while back about winning the cup being tied to seeding in the playoffs.

In Soccer when you win a tournament it's usually going to auto qualify you for a larger prize...

That should be the idea here.

I'd also like to see them allow some Euroleague teams into the tournament. It would spice things up a bit.

And on top of the Celtics not having to play a useless extra game, Tatum gets a much needed day off against the Pistons tonight

Would have been horrible to see Tatum play 3 games in 4 nights, when he already had a busy summer

Love that Luke Kornet is playing more physical in the paint. Getting more rebounds, blocking alot of shots, boxing out. He's actually altering shots more, not just that weird Kornet contest lol.

Actually defended Bam Adebayo very well the other night. Shout out to him
