Any ATCQ fan will appreciate this gem of a find that I'd happened to stumble upon recently.

It's an entire album full of the original music ATCQ sampled their greatest music from, complete with song and artist listing.

.. had a few pretty awkward moments, though, as I was grooving along to that Lou Reed - Walk on the Wild Side (38:13) [can I kick it - tribe called quest]

I was bobbing my head, connecting the rhythm to "Can I Kick It", and then heard this:

"Holly came from Miami F.L.A.,
Hitch-hiked her way across the U.S.A.,
Plucked her eyebrows on the way,
Shaved her legs, and then he was a she :sadcam:
She said, hey babe, take a walk on the wild side"

..and then I heard this:

"Candy came from out on the island,
In the backroom she was everybody's darling:leon:

But she never lost her head
Even when she was giving head :steviej:
She said, hey baby, take a walk on the wild side"

..and so at this point I'm already totally throwed by this song, and then this :snoop: :

"..she said, hey babe, take a walk on the wild side,
And the colored girls go :what:
Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo"

Can't help but wonder if ATCQ/Steve B/etc heard these lyrics prior to choosing the song as a sample or if they simply heard the melody and was like :gladbron:

I'd like to give them the benefit of doubt, personally.

Interesting to hear how others may feel about it though.. Especially since Tribe was looked at as more of a "conscious" group- never afraid to express their Black pride and were also an essential part of the Native Tongues family of artists. :lupe:

Some of the rest of the tunes are a great listen, though, if you're into sample grazin'.

Here are the songs/artists and to which ATCQ song they were used in.

It's a shame their classic albums probably will never be re-released and remastered due to all the heavy sampling in the songs (Marauders/Instinctive Journey/Low End Theory).
