Not as bad as I thought. I had a similar infection that was 1/3 of that size back in 2019 after shaving with a razor. It took about 3 months to heal but I recovered fully it's like I never had it. His took out his hair follicles too, he might be done out here

As someone said in the Reddit comments, he probably has AKN or some type of scalp folliculitis. He probably needs to be put on an antibiotic like Cephelexin for a while and probably end up on a dosage of Accutane or something similar.

If he wanted to go the DIY route, he could try washing his hair with Benzoyl Peroxide and/or Hibiclens, then hit it with some 70% Isopropyl Alcohol. He’ll be alright

It can if the skin heals. Mine grew back
