Fresno, CA.
"Nielsen, the company that studies the viewing habits of television viewers, announced its findings in a blog post Tuesday. Since 2008, the number of cable TV channels offered as a bundle rose from 129 to 189 in 2013, but in that time-frame viewers have consistently only watched an average of 17 channels. The data seems to support the notion that consumers are better off subscribing to channels a la carte, but cable companies are of the opinion that 'the price of cable TV wouldn't change much if channels were served à la carte because content providers won't sell the most popular programs to cable companies unless the provider's other channels are also served up.' Nielsen concluded in its post that 'quality is imperative—for both content creators and advertisers', signaling the possibility that more Americans will cut the cord after realizing that their cable bill has increased in the last few years but their consumption of content hasn't."

I still watch all the discovery, Nat Geo and History channels when I stop by my parents house. Otherwise, I don't have cable at my house. I also like that new channel El Rey (nothing but 80's actions flicks)

I think it would be better if the cable companies allowed consumers to pick and choose channels. Like there should be a bundle. I personally only watch Bizzare foods, the Universe, Survivor man, mythbusters, CNBC, Nature shows, History documentaries, I even watch ancient aliens sometimes for a good laugh.

If I could only have travel channel through Discovery Science, I would be good.

This shyt is so dead.

Nobody under the age of 25 gives a shyt about channels like that. they all fukk with netflix or amazon prime. The day of this shyt is coming to a close.

I agree. But i feel like we're just going to start paying for every streaming service then. Each channel will probably have one.

Oh man, you don't have to tell me. The telecom and entertainment industry still have a hold of the internet over us, and there's a number of ways they can (and will) ass fukk us.

I know its been a failure so far but we're moving to what the new Xbox is trying to do. It will eventually be all one device.

People complain, but that mass of channels is the only way you can afford the 17 channels you watch. Imagine having 17 streaming services(which will happen once these channels all get their own reliable and widely distributed streaming services) and paying $10/month for each. You're in the same damn place with less choice..

It's a catch 22, but ultimately cable companies are gonna pay for it in the long run.

I love HBO for its original programs, but there's rarely any movies I want to see on it. The movie studios are signing these exclusivity deals where only one channel has one movie.

If they aren't careful, the current model will collapse as people migrate to Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, and YouTube.

I want to switch to Netflix so bad, however I watch a lot of news programs. I still just might.

Honestly the only thing I watch is the NBA and PBS Frontline / Newshour...

Both which can be streamed through the internet. Cable is kind of wack, but I do have some premium channels. HBO and Showtime do stay with the Piff shows, but I'm jus not into them that much to follow them on a weekly basis. I'd rather watch a whole series in a couple days, rather than 12 weeks....

Nah I can't watch any of those "science is cool" channels...Just don't have the tolerance for it anymore....

If it wasn't for my gf I would have canceled cable. She is about as tech illiterate as it gets. Outside sports the only channel I watch is AMC for Mad Men. I have Netflix, WWE network, MLB.TV, and I use my parents HBO GO account. I'm well fed off that.
