I don't think so, you can make the same arguments with a lot of classics like Mulan (the animated film). Sure, people will complain about it, but ultimately if something is written well (which Avatar definitely was, I have the blu ray and could probably rewatch the whole thing as an adult) it will weather the storm.
The reason both sides are able to post all these rant videos is because the writing these days isn't solid typically.
