Heyy Gurlz :gurl:

I was doing maybe a little bit of some arguments with an friend who was talking about relaxing her daughter hair coz it’s “too tough”

Her daughter is only 3 and I am strongly against frying hair in general let alone on kids but then after heated argument I was :yeshrug: as it’s not my kid at the endings of the day

This got me thinking “How early are mothers out here relaxing their daughter’s hair :damn:

Lettuce discuss the issues

Why relax when it can be heat trained and kept natural. She wants to relax it bc she doesn't know how to care for natural hair. No hair is too tough. Tough sound like its dry and/or thick. Too much information about hair care for her to take the lazy route and relax, but something tells me that child's hair will look like shyt relaxed or natural in her mother's care.

I know right sistah, shyts pathetic :stop:

Gurrl, she should at least wait until her daughter is 8 and first starting school

I’m waiting for more technical information from y’all so I can go back and win the argument convincingly

(Will google heat trained)

Me, myself and I
I wouldn't put heat or a relaxer on a 3 year old's head. That's just me. There is so much information out there about how to care for different types of natural hair. She needs to be more patient. She can braid/twist the hair up and keep it in for a few days. That way, she isn't manipulating the hair too much or too often.

Heat training is straightening the hair until it no longer reverts back to curly. It stays natural but the result will be consistent straight hair. This can be achieved many ways. I got my hair straightened from 5-10 when I finally got a perm per my request. I'd get a wash with my hair dried in rollers under a dryer (this stretches the hair) and then hot combed straight (old skool).

Now hair can be blow dryed straight like this...

Or flat ironed...

There's no need to put a chemical in her head so young with other ways to achieve straightened hair.

Why not just keep the baby's hair in cornrows or braids? They last week's and are low maintenance.

Presumably the mother doesn't have the time to be braiding etc or the money to buy curly hair products. If those are her reasons then there are simpler and quicker hair styles she can use on her daughter. YouTube is her friend and she doesn't need expensive products, the right oil (right viscosity for that hair type) will go a long way.

If she wants to relax because she thinks her daughter's natural hair does not look good then she might benefit from an intervention because she's potentially damaging her daughter's confidence.

Wouldn't do that to my baby. That isn't my hair. My job is to teach her how to take care of her hair and keep it healthy, not just do what is convenient for me. I say this as the mother of two daughters, and doing their hair is something I have to set aside a day for. It sucks for that baby because if it goes left, it will be the baby who suffers for it, not the mama.

3?! That’s almost child abuse, relaxers hurt! I have damaged follicles from a relaxer I got 13 years ago. The hair that grows there barely curls and is just wavy. I got my first relaxer when I was 12. At that time, my mother wouldn’t let me get one until I started my period, and I heard many girls parents say the same. May just be bro-science for the reasoning behind that.

I would never put one in a kid’s hair that small, and now that I know how to take care of my hair, NEVER.

3 is too young imo. I can't imagine a 3 year old sitting still long enough for the process.
