At this point, does drafting one and done players even matter?

North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
Because the NBA does not even promote them. The young American players take a back seat to Euros. The one and done players who do end up shinning go to shytty franchises and they end up wasting the first 4 or 5 years in the league.

And the overall product has suffered. Yeah scoring is up, but the games are still bad. They could end this right now by raising the age limit and force players to either stay in school or go oversees and play for a few years, so when they come into the league, they're more seasoned.

College basketball has suffered tremendously. At the end of the day, only a few players are good enough to go straight to the NBA, but in this era, coming into the league early doesn't benefit anyone.

Depends on the player. Cooper Flagg is gonna generate 100s of millions to the Jazz franchise if he gets drafted there.
So the NBA is nothing but marketing now? I’m talking about the game itself. Wemby was supposed to be the next big thing and he’s just another young player caught up in the mix. He’ll get a max rookie extension and life goes on.

The game itself is trash. Trey Young was supposed to be the next Curry, and he’s rotting away on a .500 team. Most nights, there aren’t many players you would pay to see. There’s no consistency, and no real rivalries.

Boston is the best team and they’re bland.

The argument was that they'd get better development in the NBA. But it's so many variables related to the specific team situations it's not ever cut and dry. For every Ant or Paolo there are 10 dudes who never properly develop. That's just the nature of the draft.

I could see Cooper Flagg getting drafted to a team like the Pelicans or Toronto and wasting 4-5 years like @Ethnic Vagina Finder was saying

On a related note -

The cause of all this resentment towards today's NBA is that it's become unAmerican.

The best players in the league are foreign (a US-born player hasn't won MVP since 2018, and that trend is likely to continue this season); the style of the game is perceived as being foreign (the 3-pt shot is associated with Euros); the branding of the game is more international than it is American; the league is used as an effigy by Right-wing puppets who believe it's become "too woke" with its liberalism (contrary to what they perceive it was in the 90s).

I'm not sure what you're upset about.

You're upset that the 1-and-Done has ruined college basketball? You're upset that players are doing themselves a disservice by leaving college and stunting their development? You're upset that NBA teams don't have a better track record of developing players who leave college early?

Or are you upset that the current style of the NBA game doesn't suit your tastes?

You're entitled to your opinion and your tastes. So if you don't like the NBA in 2024, if you don't like college basketball now, if you don't like players leaving early....all of that stuff -- that's your right.

I just think it's coming across as bitterness. Not just with you, but this board in general. Nobody is happy with anything. They hate the NBA for the reasons you alluded to. They hate the NFL because you can't paralyze people and running backs don't get paid enough. They hate MLB because there aren't enough black players or not enough steroids to boost scoring.

But I think more than anything, a lot of people on this board hate the current landscape of ALL sports because they perceive it to be inferior to what they enjoyed in their youth. You hold onto those Jordan 3-peats and Cowboys back-to-backs and Yankees dynasties and Bonds' 72 HR and Kobe's 81 points....refusing to let go of the past to enjoy all the great things that are happening now.

It comes off as the sports fan's version of a 40 year old man who peaked in high school, in a constant loop reliving the old days and hating everything that came after it. Yeah it's nice to reminisce but if you're not careful it starts to border on pathetic.

Well, I guess we each blessed the coli with a rant today.
Cheers.

...btw I'm enjoying the NBA.

They play nothing alike besides taking deep 3 point shots.

The problem is most of the one and comes shouldn’t be one and dones because they don’t know how to play basketball.

That’s not an NBA issue..That’s an AAU/youth development issue .

Outside of the one year of college basketball (maybe) the NBA is the first time they play real structured ball.

I agree with your second point ..If you go to college you gotta stay there for 2 years .Those few “exceptional “ talents can be allowed to go straight out of HS

Just follow your favorite team.
Watch the rest of the league only in the playoffs.
Assume all prospects are not worth promoting.
Under no circumstance should you watch college basketball.

This is the path to the most enjoyment for your time

I think people need to blame the players as well though. A lot of these dudes don’t want to be great. Theyre fine Being a lottery pick, collecting $5-10m a year and fukkin ig thots. And honestly, can you blame them?

Lol what.

Even if you got some beef with Wemby it makes absolutely no sense to use him as an example since he's literally not a one-and-done player.
