As a self respecting fan, can you ever "change teams" and still be a respectable fan?

Are there ever any reasons/conditions that would excuse a person for dropping their longtime fanhood of one particular team, and start rooting/become a permanent fan of another?

I think so, but only if you have a truly good, grounded and strong reason---relocation, racism, etc--to switch teams permanently and respectively. Elsewise you're bandwagoner and should be ashamed. I am currently contemplating switching my allegiance to my team for one of the above reasons, but if the reason was simply losing, that wouldn't be just or respectable.
