A sixth-grade teacher in Arizona has been arrested after the parents of a 13-year-old boy found text messages indicating a sexual relationship between the pair, police said.

Brittany Zamora, a 27-year-old teacher at Las Brisas Academy Elementary School in Goodyear, was taken into custody late Wednesday after the discovery of the text messages, which implied the pair had gotten physical both on and off campus, KPHO reports.

“The text messages found are sexual in nature [and] allege an ongoing relationship between the two,” said Lisa Kutis, a spokeswoman for the Goodyear Police Department.

The texts were found because the boy’s parents had installed an app to monitor his phone, Kutis said.

“As a result of the app, which alerted the parents to some key words, they then checked the cellphone and discovered these text messages,” Kutis told the station.

The boy’s parents then informed the school’s principal about the texts before the allegations were relayed to police, along with screenshots of the incriminating texts, according to Liberty School District interim district superintendent Richard Rundhaug.

“The safety of our students is our #1 priority,” Rundhaug said in a statement posted on the school’s website. “Transparency is equally important. We are fully cooperating with the Goodyear Police Department and will comment further at the appropriate time.”

Parents of students at the school learned of Zamora’s arrest via an automated message, KNXV reports.

“It just freaked me out right away,” Jessica Arroyo told the station. “That’s just crazy. I can’t even connect that. That’s wrong.”

It’s unclear whether other students may have been communicating with Zamora and detectives are conducting additional interviews, Kutis told the Arizona Republic.

“That’s part of our overall investigation,” Kutis said. “We’re not ruling that out.”

It’s unclear how long Zamora taught at the school, but she was certified in 2016 to teach elementary students in the state, according to online records.

Brittany and I met when we were 16 years old. We were walking into our first job interview and arrived at the building at the same time. We locked eyes shortly after. Both distracted and mesmerized, we secretly kept staring at each other from across the room. Because of our instant connection, neither of us can remember what we said in the interview.

The good news is that we were both hired. We ended up in the same orientation and, as fate would have it, assigned seating had us sitting right next to each other. We started talking right away and began getting to know each other, sharing way too many laughs in the process!

In talking and sharing stories, we found so many wonderful qualities in one another and we immediately became best friends. We also found out that we were going to the same high school and, from there on, became inseparable. We took the same classes, passed notes and met each other for lunch.

I reached out to everyone in Brittany’s immediate family to ask for her hand in marriage, which was happily given by all parties. After receiving permission, I tried to figure out what kind of ring Brittany would be interested in. While in a jewelry store, I said, “Who knows, I may want to ask for your hand sometime in the future.” She literally jumped for joy and we began the hunt. We went from store to store, all over Arizona, trying to find the perfect ring. For a great while, luck was not on our side. Every store we visited had pushy salespeople who were trying to rush us into a purchase. Feeling diminished and like we had hit a dead end, we heard a Shane Co. commercial on the radio and decided to check it out.

The parents also told police on Wednesday that Zamora's husband, whose name was redacted in the court record, "harassed" the teen's father over the phone, calling him and pleading with him not to contact police. Court records say the husband told the teen's father that his wife had "made a big mistake, but that she loved the kids." He suggested they "meet up" and "settle this." The boy's father declined and hung up the phone.

At her initial appearance in court, Zamora told Commissioner Melissa Zabor that she would "love to go home, to be released. … I’d love to go home to my husband."

A second student told Goodyear police he witnessed Zamora having sex with the victim on the Las Brisas Academy campus and that he also received naked pictures of Zamora

She had sex with a male student three times and performed oral sex on him in the classroom and in her car since Feb. 1.

The two also exchanged sexually explicit text messages that included Zamora, a sixth-grade teacher at Las Brisas Academy Elementary School in Goodyear, sending naked pictures of herself to the student, court records said.

The student told police that the relationship began when Zamora began "flirting" with him on a classroom chat group. She sent him a naked picture of herself and another of herself wearing lingerie. He told police he also sent her pictures of himself naked.

In one exchange, court records show the victim told her he wanted to have sex with her again.

"I know baby! I want you every day with no time limit," Zamora responded, according to court records.

She also allegedly texted him that "If I could quit my job and (have sex with) you all day long, I would," court records show.
