A gifted Chicago student with a 5.1 grade point average on a 4.0 scale has been bombarded with acceptance letters from 26 universities and offered a staggering $3 million in scholarships.

Arianna Alexander, from Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood said she was overwhelmed with the offers but opted to study business at the University of Pennsylvania.

She told ABC 7 Chicago: '[At first] it was a lot to take in. I received emails, letters. It was just like, 'Come here, come here!' They were bombarding me with all this information.'

Dad: Pierre Alexander said he was instrumental in getting his daughter to go after the scholarships

The talented schoolgirl, who was Kenwood Academy's valedictorian, said at least six of her acceptance letters are from Ivy League schools.

But she decided which university to attend with the help of her teacher, Paul Brush, who advised her that Pennsylvania offered students the world-renowned Wharton School of Business.

Brush told the station: 'As teachers, we have a big moment to play with the lives that we have in our classrooms.'

However, the student also credits her father's guidance for helping her to go after the scholarships after he saw another Kenwood student had been offered a $1 million scholarship a few years ago.

Pierre Alexander, Arianna's father said: 'I planted the seed in Arianna's mind that you can do the same thing.

'So when the process got started and a million was achieved, let's go for two. I said let's go for three and she did it.'

School: The talented schoolgirl, who was Kenwood Academy's valedictorian, has acceptance letters from six Ivy League schools

Her father added that the financial help will be a 'blessing' because she is the baby of her family and has three other siblings --who have already been to university.

He said: 'It was a big blessing, because I've already put three through college. Now I don't have to worry too much about her.'

She added: 'I feel like it means I can afford college and I don't have to worry about it. I feel like that's an issue for a lot of people my age.'

Now that she is college bound, Alexander is already focusing on the future.

She says her ultimate goal after college is to own four restaurants and admits that she is already working on the menus.

However, she adds that her dad's advice has been the key to her success so far.

She said: '[He told me] work hard, pray on it, and don't give up. No matter what happens, you did your best.'
