It seems that this is the era where rappers are openly dyeing their hair, dressing "dark",trying their hardest to be the new weird, doing the most outlandish shyt for shock value. There should be a category for this type of rap, they should it "nu-wave hip hop".

Looks a lot like the first wave. :sas1:

And why not ask this question on a hip hop site? :sas2:

You beat me to it as I was leaning more towards New Wave myself. The Punk era to me for Hip Hop would have been the 90's as was Hardcore to Punk with Bad Brains, Black Flag, along with the UK82 scene. What we're experiencing now is something like a New Wave, or even Post Punk era to keep it distinguished. Avant Garde comes to mind. Regardless, the similarities and coincidental timing of Punk's and Hip Hop's births is intriguing. I like how The Get Down series touched on Punk, just for a brief moment in the first season. I get the feeling with Books embracing his internship with his mentor's "Blondie" daughter, we're going to see a whole lot more footage and storytelling regarding Punk, Post-Punk, New Wave, Avant Garde, Goth, etc..

On another note, anybody ever notice, or was it ever addressed that the album cover artwork of Bowie's Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust has a sign outside of a residence that says, "K. West"?

Something else too, one of my favorite Bowie songs is, "Fashion", on his album, "Scary Monsters". How coincidental Ye is going into the fashion industry and one of his most famous songs is, "Monster".

Thought it was just me as this thread got me thinking, but the subject has been broached before........

Bowie married Iman too, who was an anomaly within the fashion industry at the time. Ye did the same with Kim K.

Dude in the third pic does look a little punk actually. Especially the London shoes...

Black people are about to enter an electric guitar/rock phase. I can feel it :wow:

Nah. Colorful, hippy-trippy mumble rap about partying and girls. These dudes are really genuine. Might be weird but they are who they are.

Punk and hip hop both sprout from developed countries' working class reactions to Jamaican immigration

If there has ever been any confluence, and if there is any now, it's shaped like a helix, wrapping back on itself

I think what's happening now is just monoculture caused by the Internet squeezing creativity out of people to the point that they'll do anything to be different from what the guy next to them is doing, since he's bland as fukk
