Are country Louisana black families really like how they were depicted on Eve's Bayou?

First off, I love that movie. I liked how the family was depicted, where the wife, sister and mother were all living under the same roof. Is it really like that? I liked the culture they displayed in the film, esp that creole french dialect I hope I can have a traditional southern family like that
