I remember buying Final Fantasy 9 and Dragon Warrior 7 at the same time.

While I don't think 8 is as bad some people say it is.

Final Fantasy 9 is the better game and maybe the most slept on in the series because it came out right around the PS2 and the story was more lighthearted than the previous 2 games.

I can honestly say, a remake of VIII would probably be the only final fantasy game i don’t buy day one.

They'd have to completely rebuild the game AND story from the ground up. And probably redo character personalities. It'd have to be a whole different game to work.

RE3 remake is considered the worst RE remake, but really it's just that RE3 is the worst classic RE of the mainline, I think FF8 falls in that same boat, in terms of the PS1 trilogy

Neck ties and boxing gloves.
The FF8 slander is egregious and uncivilized.

Negs.

Negs everywhere.
Agreed.

I personally prefer both the characters and story of 8. (I give Vivi his props but that's where it stops). But we can get into character discussion if you want. I do enjoying humbling posters on occasion

To the point of breaking them.

:demonic:

I accept 9 is the better of the two simply for the fact that you can't break the battle system.

But that is the only reason

I do like the characters in 9 and it's a fun, refreshing entry for sure. I appreciated that it was a love letter from Sakaguchi. I have been a Final Fantasy fan since 1991 when FF2 (IV) introduced me to RPGs.

A bigger critical and commercial point was that it was an epic created and influenced by nostalgia and not surving on it.

A lesson Zoomers need to fukking learn from with the reboots and remake shyt.

Since we're on the subject, with all these hot, brilliant takes, how many of you actually played FF9 when it was released in real time?

I not only preordered it but convinced 2 of my friends to buy it lol
Since, we're sharing secrets. I have a confession.

Starting with VII, I started collecting strategy guides (that was the first FF7 related anything in the States I had been thirsty since III/VI).

In 2000, Squaresoft decided they were going to get in on that whole crazy internet craze with the kids been told they got mail and whatnot along with Napstering phat tracks and porn jpegs that could download in as little as two hours.

They created a little something called PlayOnline.

I had purchased a FF9 strategy guide.

The rest I blocked out from trauma.

I can still see the blue bubbles.

Woat main villain and thats saying a lot considering theres only like 3 real memorable Final Fantasy villains
Cloud of Darkness is the best and most memorable villain in the series :troll:

her dissidia redesign made her the most prominent villain for anyone under 18 who played that game. She aint even have on no clothes Lol

I remember the princess was actually kidnapped by the queen from a tribe who could summon powerful beast so the queen could eventually steal the summons to use as weapons.
Some shyt like that :laff: I just remember shorty wanted to go on an adventure and steiner was a hater...it was the game that made me love FF but I really didn't pay attention to the story.
