I thought he was creepy as fukk as a kid, and he really was ahead of his time, with his Cape Fear-Robert deNiro character. Spivey got injured a few months into this character, and he was forced to retire. I think he could've been pushed big time, if he had stayed healthy. Bray Wyatt, while entertaining, doesn't feel as creepy or convincing like Spivey that he's nice southern gentleman, who could be a complete psychopath underneath.

^agreed. Great gimmick aside, even if he was healthy, he basically would’ve been yesteryears Umaga, able to be built up just enough to be taken down by every upper level face.

He was dope. I don't think anyone is saying he'd be main eventing Mania, but the character had a lot o potential.

Great gimmick that was a little ahead of it's time and would've been better suited for the attitude era, IMO.

And I'm not so sure that Spivey was the best choice to play that character either.

Gimmick was dope but Danny Spivey was always a dry big guy. In that era, he probably would've gotten just far enough to do the job to Undertaker at a PPV.

Would’ve been nice to see that little Skyscrapers *wink wink* matchup.

Character was a bit intriguing but I agree he wouldn’t had went far

would have been cool if they had actually gotten the character over on TV and then later revealed him to be the higher power instead of cokeboy

Gimmick was dope but Danny Spivey was always a dry big guy. In that era, he probably would've gotten just far enough to do the job to Undertaker at a PPV. Then, he'd have been putting over Bret, Ahmed and Shawn on TV, and eventually in Isaac Yankem territory.

This is the most accurate post for any heel in 1994-1995 WWF.

That "Y'know what I mean?" is a low-key dope cliffhanger-type catchphrase. Kind of thing that based on the tone of it can go from :jawalrus: to :demonic: in a heartbeat.

A gimmick like that/Bray Wyatt's works best when kept simple and reliant upon the person actually fukking shyt up when pressed as opposed to making a video of worms project into the ring during at WWE title match at WrestleMania.

There's too much TV magic type shyt out in the world for layered gimmicks like this to reach their potential. Some stuff you just need to hand to the actor/wrestler and fall back.

gimmick was fine but spivey was pretty done by then unfortunately

Yeah Spivey, was getting kinda up in age by that time. I don't think he would have gotten big enough where he could have gotten upset wins over guys like Diesel/HBK/Bret. Undertaker or Ahmed maybe but eventually they would have won that feud.

Yeap, and I couldn't imagine him thriving by the time Vader and Mankind showed up.

I agree with everything you said about his career and where it would have gone, but the angles and promos this guy could have given us had the potential to be really memorable. What he was able to do with these short vignettes where all he was doing was introducing himself is something that we still talk about to this day. The idea that he could have been cutting these kinds of psychotic promos on other wrestlers and maybe work some interesting angles is the biggest disappointment for what could have been with him. We saw Rick Rude and Jake the Snake do some great heel work in the previous era, and seeing some solid, "realistic" character work from a guy like Waylon Mercy in that later era could have been a bright point for them.
