My company is changing my role around a bit. They want me spending some time on sales and learning about sales.

Go to library and read up on books on salesmanship.
It probably sounds boring but you never know what you will pick up from it that might help you score a big sale.
Big sales equals "you are an asset to the company" which equals possible promotion, raises, and at least someone they don't want to let go if the economy goes sour.
