I have ZERO beatmaking skills, but I was just playing around with Audacity so I figured I'd ask. I know there are videos on Youtube, but what video is actually worth the time and provides the best info?

Audacity is not a daw. If you're using it to make beats, you're wasting your time

I use Audacity for editing and adding additional tweaks to my beats. What do you use to make beats (FL Studio, Maschine, Logic, etc). I'll see if I can help you out a bit but to tell you the truth, it's better to just dikk around with the software like I have because tutorials are only good for the sampling portion of the workflow imo, along with just minor touches to the beat.

HE OBV DOESNT HAVE ANYTHING, ITS OK THO

I WOULD SAY IF YOU WANT TO MAKE BEATS LOOK INTO PICKING ONE OF THESE THREE PROGRAMS: LOGIC, ABLETON, FL STUDIO (OR FOR A 4TH OPTION - REASON)

LOGIC IS THE BEST IMO FOR HAVING PRESET SYNTH SOUNDS FOR BEGINNERS AND HAVING PLUGINS (AKA PROGRAMS THAT WORK WITHIN THE DAW). BUT I FEEL IT IS SEVERELY LACKING COMPARED TO ABLETON IN TERMS OF WHAT IT CAN DO WITH SAMPLING. HAVING USED BOTH (ABLETON A LOT MORE) I CAN SAY IF YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO SAMPLE, YOU WILL HAVE A MUCH EASIER TIME IN ABLETON, BUT YOU MAY NEED TO FIND EXTERNAL PLUGINS AND SYNTHS TO COMPENSATE FOR SOME THINGS. I DONT USE FL STUDIO I THINK ITS ASS, BUT A LOT OF PRODUCERS USE IT TOO AND THEY THINK ITS THE EASIEST ONE SO IDK

LOOK INTO ALL THREE OF THEM AND WHATEVER YOU CHOOSE WILL BE YOUR BEGINNING OF YOUR JOURNEY. IF YOU FEEL UNCONFIDENT WITHOUT HARDWARE, JUST REMEMBER FLYING LOTUS GOT FAMOUS OFF MAKING BEATS SOLELY ON HIS LAPTOP, NO HARDWARE. SO THE WORLD IS IN YOUR FINGERTIPS IF YOU LEARN CORRECTLY.

I use Audacity for editing podcasts, editing songs (when I want to take out an intro/verse/make it a ringtone), and recording audio when needed. As others said it's not a DAW for production. @El_Mero_Mero what are you trying to do with it?

If you looking for something free, get the free demo version of FL Studio, imo the learning curve isn't as steep as other DAWs and there's tutorials and flp files all over the internet....

I was just importing tracks and practicing recording songs over them. Then after that I just imported part of an animated theme song and was trying to take a piece of it and put it together with a piece from another beat and then create a new beat (just messing around for now).

Thanks for the feedback though. If I try to look deeper into it, then I'll look into the free Fruity Loops tutorial.

Before you use the FL demo, try this. I have used it in the past and while it's limited compared to FL Studio, it gets the job done. Plus its free:blessed:

I use Audacity to do some quick clean up, you can make music on it but you gotta know how to sample and dub everything together, made this crappy Trip Hop EP with Audacity-

I'm not really sure what characterizes Trip Hop, but it was an interesting and quick listen. Thanks for contributing to the thread. Cool to listen to some MF Doom as I don't really actively seek his stuff out.

I use audacity to record vinyl from my turntable and then import into fl studio . Audacity is a recording software imo look into fl studio if you actually want to produce . There is plenty of other producing software but fl studio might be more easy to learn and you have shytload of tutorial on youtube . Once you get the basic you can move on to an other software or stick with it if it work for you . Hope it help :salute:
