Im asking because its some people up here i have to kinda supervise that i dont know how someone could hire with a good conscience. I mean they had to have hired these people simply to protect themselves against a discrimination suit. This whole operation could run so much smoother if nothing but able bodied intelligent people worked here.

So if you are in the position to hire people, when you interview people who can technically do the job you are hiring for but you know they would be barely scraping by, how do you overlook that and hire them anyway? Like you know a dude a tad slow, do you feel bad for them and hire them out of sympathy?

-side note its one manager up here who clearly gets first pick of the new hires. His operation is nothing but cute women with phat asses and older men. If you an able bodied man from 18-40 or an older unattractive woman then there is no way you will work for him. I called him out on it and he was like "why not", i had no comeback.

Why not? Because it's discrimination to exclude people based off how they look.

This is why I do phone interviews whenever possible.

Yes, it is discrimination to exclude people based on how they look. But how difficult is it to hire that person over someone else who you know isnt slow?

Like lets say you have a job where you need people to scan an item and place it in the correct slot at a rate of 10 per minute. Person A is clearly a little slow but you know he can do the job at 10 per minute but barely, then you have person B that is 100% normal and you know from prior history that someone like him can do the job at around 18 a minute. As a hiring manager how do you ever pick person A over person B? Is it purely so you wont get sued?

A LOT of people hire who they think they will get along the better with as opposed to who will do the best job. Additionally, you might hire the guy who can only do ten an hour because that's all you need and you know you can keep him in that position forever, basically; the guy doing 18 an hour will get bored and want to move up quickly, and you'll be stuck having to hire somebody else. I'm not sure what type of business you're in, but that's the thought process that goes through the mind of people who hire lower-level, lower-wage employees sometimes.

Ok i can see that. Im an engineer for a distribution company so while i mostly deal with management and other engineers i also interact with the regular employees and sometimes when i see some of the shyt these people do, or often dont do im like who hired these people to begin with.
