Trying to find a solution to a problem..

25% was taken out of a paycheck to pay a lawyer...that amount was $3400.00

What formula do I need to find out what was the total amount of the paycheck before 25% was taken out?

Would this be Algebra or?

1. Wrong forum
2. Divide 3400 by 0.25 (that's 25% in decimal form), the answer is the total amount of the check.

Algebra

let x = total paycheck amount
.25x = 3400
x = 3400/.25 = 13,600

Yes this is algebra

X = total paycheck

X times 25% = 3,400

You need to move the 25% to the other side of the the equals and inverse the operation

X = 3,400 divided by 25%

13,600= 3,400/25%

or

13,600* 25%= 3,400

It’s proportions.

You put 25 over a 100 and 3400 over x. Solve for x.

25% is a quarter so 4 times 3400. You shoulda known that one lol.

LOL @ At These Dudes

3,400 x 4 = 13,600
That’s fine for this one if you understand the concept, but breh needs the formula to figure this out if it comes up again. If the next time it’s 17% of a check was taken, how does this one working out neatly to “3400 x 4” help him?

Come On Breh

I’ll Give You The Easy Explanation

There’s 4 Quarters In A Dollar

Dollar = 100%

A Quarter = 25%
Ok yea that makes sense

All this is starting to jog my memory..

Math is like a language you have to keep talking otherwise you slowly lose the language:wow:

Sidenote you def from the Boogie DOWN...tell it like it is...just like my pops and uncle..they both from 156th Courtlandt...Jackson Houses...(???)

Early roots can be traced to Ancient Babylon:ohhh:

"The roots of algebra can be traced to the ancient Babylonians,[9] who developed an advanced arithmetical system with which they were able to do calculations in an algorithmic fashion. The Babylonians developed formulas to calculate solutions for problems typically solved today by using linear equations, quadratic equations, and indeterminate linear equations. By contrast, most Egyptians of this era, as well as Greek and Chinese mathematics in the 1st millennium BC, usually solved such equations by geometric methods, such as those described in the Rhind Mathematical Papyrus, Euclid's Elements, and The Nine Chapters on the Mathematical Art "

sounds like they invented numbers while everyone else was still doing word problems. Crazy.
