Any of you folks ever go solo to see shows? There are several artists performing here in the next month or so that I can't wait to see (James Blake, Purity Ring, CHVRCHES, Twin Shadow), but I can't get any of my friends to bite the bullet on getting tickets. I've never gone to a show by myself, so I thought I'd get some input. Seems like it wouldn't be as fun.

I went to Folkfest a few years back to go see Burning Spear. Few of my friends were supposed to go as well but they bytched out last second. Was a good experience. I actually ran into my uncle there. Only other show I've been to by myself was the Masta Ace concert. Had a great experience that night as well. Chopped it up with a lot of people. Had I went with my peoples I probably wouldn't have conversed with as mny people as I did that night.

Bunch of times. Actually went to Coachella solo the other weekend (just moved to Toronto 2 months ago, knew no one when I got here). Depending on the gig its pretty easy to strike up a convo and make new friends I find. Even so if you like the band that much, it doesnt matter. I saw Frightened Rabbit and didnt talk to anyone but still had a great time. EDM concerts are the only concerts I find you need someone to go with - it's like going to a nightclub solo.

Also props on Twin Shadow, I'm seeing him in June. Looking forward to it.

Yeah I suppose it's a good opportunity to meet new people. And once the band comes on, it's not like you're holding conversations anyway.

I write concert reviews for a magazine and some websites, so I often have to fly solo to concerts. Sometimes it sucks, for example when the artist comes on late and you have to stand there for 2,5 hours by yourself (fukk you Mos Def). But most of the time it's cool, you shouldn't let it stop you from going to bands you like.
