when i first got my phone i downloaded everything that caught my eye. i was an early adopter to the smartphone craze and at the time, every neat little thing you could do with your phone seemed new and exciting mainly because it was... new and exciting.
now as the novelty started to wane, i began to feel overwhelmed with everything. finally got fed up and erased everything except for a music and messaging app after realizing that was all i really used.
apps can be cool and all but a lot of them have the same functionality as their equivalent website (which makes them unnecessary) while others require you to create a new account or tie your facebook/twitter just to use them (which makes them overly intrusive). others like news aggregator apps are genuinely good apps but can suck up a ton of your time in what seems like minutes because they offer you so much information and make it so easily accessible. games are another example of good apps but with the genre's that work best on a touch screen, once you've figured out the gameplay, they all start to become slight variations on the same few types of core gameplay experiences (tower defense, infinite runners, etc).
the whole point of apps is to make your life more convenient or offer a bit of entertainment but when they start feeling like more of a distraction than a necessary part of your life, the problems start. the chore of updating apps, managing notifications and just generally being a distraction from interacting with the people around you and slowly the burn in starts to set in.
the idea of documenting everything i'm doing with a status update, picture, tweet, or check-in is great but it's just one more thing i have to do on top of all the other things i already have to do.
can't deal with it brehs. it's all too much.
