On my visit to NYC a few months ago, I rented one of those citibikes for the whole time. It reignited my love for being on a bicycle...especially in a lively city. You get to see so much more than if you're taking the subway, walking, or in a car.

I bought a bicycle a few weeks ago and have been taking it out here in LA the past few weekends. It has made me appreciate my neighborhood a lot more. The car culture out here can make you forget how dope a neighborhood can be. This past weekend, I rode along Ventura Blvd...stopped to do some shopping, have some beers, eat some sushi...and got a decent workout along the way.

Anyone else ride a bicycle on a regular basis? Also, at a citywide bicycling event a few weeks ago....almost everyone had those lightweight road bikes. What's the best model/brand of that type?

I used to love bicycling. Now, I wouldn't bother riding unless it was 100% bike path. Too many retarded drivers side swiping bicyclists and not staying around to help, call an ambulance or of course, not wanting to get blamed for the accident.

I use to bike when I lived in NYC to save on MTA and cab fare. The feeling of biking around Manhattan and Brooklyn :blessed:

Fukk bike shares. Just invest in a good bike $300-$800, if you're going to actually use it. The amount you'll save in subway fees and gas will add up quickly.

$300-800?
:patrice:

What kind of things should I look for in a good, quality bike?

Where you live? $30 unlimited MTA weekly x 12 = 360 + cab fare throughout the year. You'll make that back in 1.5 years. Bikes last 10 + years.

If you use a car then the savings are obviously more

As far as bikes, depends on what you want. Just google on the subject and read up. I prefer older Italian bikes if you can find a good deal. Don't ride fixie. Make sure the bike is the right height and size for your frame.

I live in LA, in the valley. My daily commute is 100 miles roundtrip, so a bike won't cut it. I'm only looking to ride on weekends and after work for fun/exercise.
