I am thinking about getting certified to become a personal trainer and maybe athletic training. Any Advice or anything you would have to say about the job/career?

dont do it for the money...you can get some paper if you are a PT with a lot clients but that takes a lot of time and investing. its a nice, relaxed job but if you are just an instructor in a gym you wont make a whole lot.

Personal training - It is a saturated market, but at the same time, more and more people are getting interested in fitness too. I must say that a lot of the fresh out of college trainers "know" some of the dumbest sh!t. The health industry also has a lot of false and misleading info published and conflicting philosophies.

If you become an athletic trainer at a medical/rehab center or a sports facility, that requires more education but can be a great career.

Don't waste your time unless you like training someone at 5 am then taking a break at 11 and then training again from 3-8 lol

Only way its worth it is if you have your own studio in your basement and are good at marketing and sales and obviously have the look

but yeah like any trade you can make money if your good and know how to market yourself. Not everyone has both qualities...plenty of good skilled people who can't sell themselves and plenty of crappy skilled people who know how to bullshyt people

and if your marketing you have to go all the way in like make youtube videos have a website a facebook page build up your clients have good word of mouth knowing what your target market is and pricing it appropriately to make it worth it and realize the prime money is older ladies who are married to professionals

The real housewives of new jersey market is the gold mine in terms of clients. They are the most flexible will pay a lot if they deem what you offer as quality. But a starting out trainer isn't getting into that market unless he owns a studio and can market his or her ass off

i'm a yoga teacher and i work for a personal training company in that capacity in addition to teaching at a full-time yoga studio and also at a gym.

i'm also certified by a YogaAlliance-affiliated yoga studio and credited with 200+ hours of training as a Registered Yoga Teacher which means i can use the initials RYT after my name in addition to being CPR/First Aid certified and also insured for liability.

:heh: @ "the only way its worth it"... Please, PT's in San Fran that work for fitness clubs make the same amount as most entry level jobs when you first start out... So if Working out is your thing, then it is definitely worth it... Those hours that you listed are amazing by the way. Not to mention if you get in with a more upscale club that is even more cake. You definitely do not need your own studio, but working with an independent studio is a good thing after you build up a clientele base from working with a chain club....

its definitely worth it if you are passionate about fitness and live in a big city...
