What's starting salary for field tech's?

Applied at comcast last week and and I applied for a premises tech at att today. Heard they work the hell out of them in the field though but I need the networking (lan, wan, wifi) experience because I'm trying to get on this WIMAX install tip. Heard they building tons of antenna's for the next gen (combined with FIOS) and probably going to be needing people with networking experience. I'll do that shyt for a good year or so but I heard they work like crazy at ATT. Like 20+ hrs OT EVERY week with no weekends...:whew:

I remember when I used to do tech support for AT&T. The field techs stayed providing me with unintentional comedy. It was funny to have a field tech go to somebody's house and then that same customer calls in 20 mins later cause their s**t messed up again....and the field tech refused to answer their callbacks lol

I work at direct tv in house for 6 months, piece rate though. Pain in the ass most of the time.

Comcast subcontractor work was pretty cool, but it didnt pay like in house.

I'm a field tech. the job is very difficult some days and very easy some days. the perks are my cable bill for all channels with a DVR and an HD box and 30 meg internet is like $18 a month (i just pay for the cable boxes) and i drive a company truck home from work where i don't use any gas or my personal car for work.

the worst parts are the bees in the peds and boxes on the side of the house, going an an attic, and crawling under a trailer or in a crawl space.

the best part are those perks i listed above and when you sell people extra services you get commission. in fact if i factor in what i save in gas per month not having to drive to work in my car, my cable bill savings and commission / overtime i make a decent amount more than people who make more money than i do but have those expenses.

the starting pay was really bad. i started out at like 11 dollars. within 2 years i was up to about 18 an hour.

I applied online and interviewed and got the job. My dilemma now is this isn't what I went to school for but I make more than twice as much as an entry level job in that field. I'm gonna work this for a few years and save as much as I can then reevaluate. this is a tough career IMO but there are a lot of guys doing it cause its a living but it will prevent them from making big bucks.

Yeah my last job was decent but I left. Don't get caught up in the "good pay" shyt bro. Think about the future and progress up through those chains in what you went to school for instead of something that if your injured (god forbid) or quit, that the employer will actually have to SEARCH for someone to replace you instead of just "hey man..we hiring...want to get on?!" type shyt.

fukk THAT shyt. Unless You Supporting A Family or in debt, DONT DO IT :damn:
It's not that bad. I don't plan on doing it the rest of my life but if you're looking for work for a while it'll do. You probably can't or don't wanna be doing this shyt in your 40s though. It's not a career its a job.

I was doing installs for DirectTV for like 4 month, it was a good experience but they work the shyt out of you. Working 6 days a week was too much. But it paid well and you get a lot of tips. I remember getting tipped like half a zip in weed one time from this dude out in Oakland. I recommend not trying to get stuck at job like that, always look for something better because you will have no life
