Anybody else think these NFL cats getting hurt more often, is partly their own fault?

It's amazing how some of these dudes literally wear NO pads others than shoulder pads.

Alot of them dont wear knee pads anymore, a bunch of them don't wear thigh pads(which boggles my mind when you look at how many tackles are made on the thigh area) anymore, no hip pads/tailbone pads, etc.

I've heard some of them claim it makes them faster or they can move better, any maybe there's some truth to that, but you can stil be a great player and wear proper padding to protect yourself.

If their injuries were tied to knee, thigh, hip and tailbone bruises then i'd agree with you, but protective padding isn't preventing your ACL, pectoral or Achilles from getting torn.

could that be from extensive workouts then?

I remember playing football in high school and yea alot of us didnt wear any pads. And if we did we'd either wear little ones meant for players in pop warner (literally alot of nikkas would use their pop warner pads) or we'd cut up the big pads and turn them into smaller ones:

For example this is the standard issue set of hip and but pads. Cut the circles out of the hip pads and you have 2 knee pads and cut the rectangles at the top of the hip pad and you have thigh pads or make just that your hip pads.

I just used the compression shorts that came with the pads tho:

In our eyes mobility>>safety and those bigger pads didnt necessarily prevent injury either. Most injuries arent to the knee caps and thighs, if you were going to tear something you just were going to tear something. I would say this, alot of athletes overstrain themselves and dont give their muscles proper time to recover. I'll admit I only did the minimum workout(s) required and the only times I got hurt were in the offseason when I played basketball and twisted my ankle coming down from a rebound and a fluke turf toe incident (turf toe is a bytch),<----neither injuries caused me to miss a game tho. While on the otherhand we had this one nikka one of our best athletes who was a workout warrior to the fullest (he played at my school for 3 seasons and never played a full season. Junior year he got hurt in the 1st game & sidelined for the rest of the season and senior year he got hurt in like week 3 and was sidelined until playoffs in which he got hurt again). Dude walked onto a D1 SEC school where apparently last year he had worked his way up to the top 4 DBs on the team in which he got hurt again before the spring game, idk either you straining yourself too much or some people are just made out of glass.

Man I wish I had that type of common sense back in high school.

My coach fukking coached in the 60's and 70's and was giving out linemen facemasks to backs and big ass bulky shoulder pads. And the practice pants felt like they were made out of paper machet. The first time everyone stretched in practice pants you'd hear like 10 rip simultaneously.

do you think are more injuries now than before?

not sure. it does seem like more guys blow their knees out because they're all in phenomenal shape and their bodies are wound so tight(n/h) but they same to recover a lot faster now too

Man I graduated two years ago and that still happens. All the smart players (nikkas who get pt and want to look good on the field) Just cop they own stuff. They buy their own position pad pads (typically get them a size smaller than suggested). nikkas who had money even got they own helmets which of course meant they had to get their own facemask. nikkas on my team were thieves tho they would steal everything under the sun. There was a Modells across the street from my school and they would just comeup.

Looking back I was a dumbass...the only thing I would switch was the chinstrap to an Adams one and the facemask if they gave me some Lawrence Taylor looking nonsense.

I wish I had just bought a pair of white stretchy practice pants as opposed to the paper machet garbage they handed out

And the shoulder pads...fukk, they were huge. Just look back 15 years ago everyone was wearing much bigger equipment. My coach was just a stubburn fukk. If you wore anything he didnt give you he'd think you were too flashy.

knee pads don't prevent ACL injuries and even then dudes aren't going to wear them right, just like in college

You should have just quoted the GOAT Deion Sanders

“If you look good, you feel good. If you feel good, you play good. If you play good, they pay good.”

And in the case of high school fb I'd switch it to

“If look good, feel good. If feel good, play good. If play good, [you get] pay good.”

cause the only person getting paid was the coach.

That's good. I heard Michael Irvin say he never wore thigh pads.

For me, catching a helmet or direct hit to the thighs is a reason to wear pads.

I got speared on a kickoff return by a helmet directly between the thigh and knee pad...it hurt like hell. Deep thigh bruise, I couldnt do shyt for a week.
