i always relied on running in the summer heat to lose a huge chunk of weight, but my doctor told me to stop running cause of my weak ass back :to:

he did however recommend swimming. i never swam besides playing around in the pool as a kid but im about to give it a shot. supposedly it helps with fat loss cause its a full body workout and helps strengthen the core.

so any swimmers on the coli that can vouch for those claims?

Your doctor recommended something and you come to the-coli for validation?

In all seriousness, yes swimming helps with fat loss, yes its a full body workout, and yes it helps strengthen core muscles.

To bad I can't swim for shyt :to:

im not doubting the doctor saying its better for my back than running. im more looking for other success stories with weightloss and swimming. google seems to come up with mixed results. theres even an article that says something about how it doesnt help too good with weight loss because the cold water slows down the metabolism :manny:

im looking for anybody else with experience swimming and losing weight.

I don't buy that; from personal experience, whenever I hit the swimming heavy for my cardio routine, I always get told that "you really look lean". Only drawback I've had with swimming is that it ramps up my appetite big time. But that's easily dealt with when doing intermittent fasting.

:ohhh: i saw one article that also said the same about it slowing down metabolism but he said thats only if u go in there to swim slow for a long time. he said the best way to do it is high intense interval training while i swim. im gonna start saturday morning :smugbiden:

Swimming is great, just make your technique and balance are on point.

I've been swimming since the beginning of June and I love it. It's so relaxing and soothing. The first time you go is gonna be hard as shyt and you will be stopping mid way through the lap. But the more you go the better you get of course. I swim 4 to 5 times a week now and even invested in some speedo swimming shorts and goggles. If your serious buy your goggles at tj Max or one of those discount clothing stores.
I bought mine for $6 speedo no fogging

Get goggles and ear plugs. Swimming is tough though. Make sure you stretch your arms and shoulders really good. Whenever I swim hard I fukk my shoulders up.

Been swimming ever since i was 3 and i can vouch for everything he's said. It's a GREAT way to lose fat and build a lil muscle because your working literally every part of your body. Best advice is to go to a pool and swim back and forth across the pool until your too tired, rest for a bit and then rinse and repeat
