Any stand up comics on here?

I been interested in doing standup but I've literally never seen a live performance

I'm going to an open mic event this Sunday to check it out and I know I'll give it a shot eventually.

What was y'all first time like?

I’ve tried it. There’s a reason comics are addicts and drunks lol.
I bombed both times but it’s cool to try. I was in an all black setting with a black crowd in decatur. Comics are a different breed, true to the bone.

How long were your sets?

And that's cool that the first time you bombed you didn't give up.

I actually want to bomb just because I know it's a part of the process and it will only make me want to do better the next time.

My place will most likely be a mostly cac crowd.

They gave us 10 min but if u was good u got more. I lasted about 5.
It’s really an art bc u gotta memorize your material and most importantly NAIL TIMING. Black crowds are the best to sharpen up. They’re generous with laughter and tough on stale jokes.
Never liked white comedy sets myself. U can’t tell the raw race or sex related jokes.

And how did you wrap it up?

Like did you have a finisher or did you bombing kind of wrap it up for you?

I'm so worried about that awkward moment when you realize your jokes aren't hitting and you decide to slowly walk away from the mic.

It’s an eternity fam. Forgot shyt, timing was off, face got hot from the lights lol it’s a wild ride first time.
Just fukking do it. Don’t worry bc after u bomb u feel like a warrior. Confidence is sky high bc u know all the mfs in the crowd won’t ever have the balls to get up there.

I would try it for 2-3 mins then get the hell off the stage my first time. 10 mins sounds way too long for a first timer seasoned comics do like 10-15 mins sets of their best material. You can do stand up for 3 years and still not have a solid 20 mins

You’ll probably bomb bad but if you just get one person to laugh, you win

I used to do it. I want to do it again someday. It's definitely rough the first few times you do it, I got discouraged after a while because I wasn't getting good enough results. It takes a long time to get good.

The key thing is finding your voice. Most comics start out by basically stealing other comic's jokes or delivery and it takes a while to get the creativity running to the point where you can confidently do something which is more personal or original. But its really the only starting point for most comics.

When you first say something you think is funny and get laughs from the audience, you know that its possible to turn it into a job. Its just if you have the inclination to keep going with it through the bad times.
