Just figure a good way to learn what each of us is doing in our communities, possibly some of the ideas could influence one another, I'm in the South Florida area and help in the "Make the homeless smile" down in downtown Miami, also apart of Curfew for Change, which is a grassroots empathizing on black businesses and working on creating an economic base down here, The Woodson institute is another NPO I'm affiliated with that focuses on education, I plan on checking out the dream defenders since my passion is more so on the activist side of things and that's what they empathize on.

I was involved in the UNIA out here but....yeah :francis:

I also used to be involed in another group that did community shyt.......but yeah :francis:

Right now I'm focusing on doing shyt on my own. Mentoring, teaching classes, etc.

Personally I try to keep my money as black as possible. Would be nice if there were more black owned businesses out here. I went to a gas station today that was owned by Indians. shyt made me feel some type of way :francis:

That new Black Wall street group I was telling you about a few months ago...but yeah :francis:

Went to check out the Urban League in Broward County, I respect any person who wants to bring change, but they were still focused mainly on getting us to be employed by white people. :francis: A group that has been there for 105 years should have enough connections to black businesses. I am in the process of getting rid of all my lacoste, polo, AE, etc and replacing it with black owned clothing companies, have to buy online though :francis: If anyone down here in Miami is interested, there will be a hood week coming up in August, more details coming soon, but it's a 3 day weekend, giving away 100 jobs via construction, food, music, picnics, stop the violence campaign etc.

I'm already in the process of replacing my clothes to black only brands. The problem for me is I absolutely hate buying clothes online. I like to try my shyt out first.

And UL, Dream Defenders, NAACP, and most these black groups are a damn joke man. nikkas will allow cacs into every damn thing we do man. Its why I had to stop fukking with the group I was dealing with cause they wanted cacs to join too smh.

I run with three organizations out in Central Illinois: A Black male Breakfast Club, A multiracial (mostly black) justice organization, and I'm president and trustee of two unions here. I also am affiliated with OBS (Organization of Black Struggle) and a few others

I watched a vid of the dream defenders on their website and was lost when I seen cars in their group and other non blacks, I think what I'll do is engage myself in the community as much as possible, still going to check the Dream Defenders and UL just to see if there is any conscious minded people that think black first and get them on board to start up my own NPO, although I'm trying my best to put in work down here I do kinda feel at times that my time is running out in South Florida and I might have to make that move to Atlanta

How is OBS. Met a few cats out there in Ferguson who were passing out flyers.

They've taken a few hits over the years, but they organized a lot of events in Ferguson. They are getting stronger. In fact, my advisor in my PhD program was one of the brothers that started OBS back in the day and he helped introduce me to them.

My perception of Atlanta is skewed :mjcry: down here has a lot going on, just wanted to be in a more economical black area, just curious what was wrong with the UNIA?

Great thread,I live in Philly and I'm currently involved with local chapter of the Urban League, 100 Black men in America, and a City wide mentoring program that engages young black and Latino students in the community between the ages of 13-18 to engage in community service and Activism. At the moment, alot of my time is being spent with local leaders and activists on launching a local political think tank that focuses on political and economic development.

Yep; They got an ugly history with race, but my locals cleaned up a few decades ago, and I've brought in more blacks to my local then ever before
I used to be a member and my experience was the total opposite. Not only were there so few of us in number ( It's grown quite a bit since then but not enough) but whites still have a strong foothold and aren't trying to give it up. I still have contact with people who are still part of it. They keep me informed.
