Anthony Johnson believes if he defeats Ryan Bader in their upcoming fight at UFC On FOX 18, he’ll be a UFC light heavyweight championship contender. The current champ Daniel Cormier is expected to fight the former champ Jon Jones next, although no date has been set.
Johnson explained in a recent interview that he understands if he has to wait in line for the fight, and that he believes Jon Jones is still the true light heavyweight champion.
“I want to fight DC again, but at the end of the day, Jon is the original champion, and he’s still the champion in my eyes. So I definitely want a chance to fight him. He’s the greatest ever at light heavyweight, and I’m all about challenges, so I want to see what I have to offer Jon Jones, and I want to test myself and see what I can do against a guy of that caliber.”
Johnson fights Bader on January 30th at UFC on FOX 18, airing from the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ on UFC Fight Pass and FOX.
